Fifth 'Explore Creativity' lesson- Chair sculptures on the stand

Picture from my sketchbook( both sculptures together)

This week's season was very creative because we had to shape garments or parts of them out of last week's activity which was working with chairs. My team and I, began removing the hard fabric pieces out of the chairs and we started experimenting on a mannequin with the first one (tall single chair). We were moving the fabrics on the body in such a way that would show how this experiment could work as a top or a shoulder trim or a dress or something that we have not decided already! Here are some pictures of our try:

I found this picture relevant to my work and it shows a future architecture project building

Then we started working with the second shape made out of jersey fabric which we decided not to cut in many pieces because we liked the angles that were shaped and we thought it looks very minimal this way.We placed it on the stand and it could work as a dress or a decoration for the back.

The fact that we wanted to make it  look more interesting led us to the decision to place the sculptures on a real human body so we used Stellina as a model.

I have to admit it is scaring but cool

how the first shape could work as a handbag

Fourth 'Explore Creativity' Lesson- Chairs!

This week's challenge was dressing up chairs with elastic fabrics such as tights, mutton cloth or other fabrics of our interest. The purpose of this process was to create large shapes and explore how those could work when being us as real actual pieces of clothing. Splitting up in teams of three people, we started working! The first step was to chose a chair of our preference and cover it with cling film all over so that the chair is protected and   give a different shape on the surface.
The chair with cling film rolled all around
After that, my team and I, started dressing the chair up with different tights and mutton cloth, and connecting the fabric in random shapes that we liked until a big part of the chair was covered.

When finishing with the first chair, we decided to start a second shape with combining two other types of chairs( lower ones) so that the shape that would result out of it, would be one with many angles. We thought to cover those two chairs with a different material, so we used lightweight jersey fabric and the whole sculpture with one big piece of fabric, so that is looks more dramatic when being used as a part of a cloth on a mannequin.

The last part of this session was to spread PVC glue all over the fabrics so that when they dry the become hard and keep their shapes and angles. This way we will be able to experiment with these shapes on the mannequins.

A dress by Emily Crane, made using gelatin. Ms. Crane also uses seaweed, natural flavor extracts, glycerin and food dyes in her clothing line.

Third 'Explore Creativity' lesson- Big Scale paperfolding

The third lesson was meant for the students to experiment on how small scaled paper folding that might look not that successful, can become very interesting and stunning when being bigger. So the idea was picking one shape of our preference from last weeks session, and copying it to a big paper. After that we would have to cut it and create a 3D sculpture. I tried the last shape from my last collection 3 times until I get the right size and here are some pictures.

result of my second try

Finally i got 2 pieces together and stuck them on the wall so that  I  could get a bigger  shape

This is the result of the 3d try

After that ,we had to spread in teams of two people and connect our 3D sculptures together and see which new shapes come out of that process.

The final stage of this learning process was for us to rumple our 3D shape and find out which new shapes come out of this.

The learning outcomes of this lesson were many, as it teached me how the size sometimes makes objects look different and that i should not give up before trying other options.
